sport information
The MTB XCO event will be held at the Yalbunullup Trails in Joondalup, a purpose-built mountain bike network offering a mix of natural terrain, technical features, and fast-flowing singletrack.
Races will follow a cross-country Olympic (XCO) format, testing riders’ endurance, bike handling skills, and tactical racing over a multi-lap course.
Each category will race for a duration of approximately one and a half to two hours. There will be a designated feed and hydration zone available on course.
The course will incorporate a variety of terrain including climbs, descents, tight corners, and technical sections, providing a challenging and competitive environment for all levels of riders.
Insurance Advisory and Assumption of Risk
Participation in cycling events carries an inherent risk of injury. All athletes are strongly advised to hold valid and adequate cycleracing–specific insurance appropriate to the nature and level of competition.
Athletes should carefully review the terms of any existing medical or travel insurance policy, as many travel insurance policies specifically exclude cycle racing events unless an additional cover option has been purchased.
In the absence of adequate insurance coverage, the athlete accepts sole responsibility for all costs and expenses arising from any cycling related injury or illness, including but not limited to medical treatment, hospitalisation, ambulance transport, rehabilitation, and any incidental or associated expenses, whether incurred before, during, or after competition.
Event Entry Deadline: Sunday, 28 February 2027
Event Cost: $50 USD

format
Competition Format
Multiple age divisions will compete at the same time in a combined field. Although athletes race together, results will be separated by age division and gender, with first, second, and third place medals awarded in each age category for both men and women.
Age divisions will be identified by coloured, numbered bibs to allow clear differentiation during competition. All riders will be issued a timing chip; however, results and placings will be determined by camera finish to ensure accuracy.
A and B Line Options
The MTB XCO course will feature both A and B line options at selected technical sections to cater for varying skill levels and racing strategies. The A lines incorporate higher-difficulty features designed to reward advanced technical riding, including a bridge feature and a rock drop. These sections offer a faster and more direct race line for riders confident in technical terrain.
The B lines provide a safer, more conservative alternative route around these features, ensuring all riders can complete the course while maintaining flow and race continuity.
Riders will be given the opportunity to complete course reconnaissance prior to racing to familiarise themselves with both line options and overall track layout.
Awards
First, second, and third place medals will be presented in each division.
Awards ceremonies will be conducted at scheduled intervals throughout the competition.
equipment
All bicycles and equipment must comply with current Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Regulations. Riders must use a standard cross-country mountain bike suitable for off-road racing conditions. Bikes must be pedal powered only and specifically designed for rugged terrain, fitted with functioning brakes and without any unauthorised technical modifications; helmets must be approved and always worn while riding.
The organisers and appointed commissaires may conduct pre-race and/or post-race checks, and any athlete whose equipment is deemed non-compliant or unsafe may be required to rectify the issue before starting or may be withdrawn from the event.
