sport information

The Cycling Road Sprint will take place along Riverside Drive, adjacent to Langley Park in Perth.

This exciting event features a 500-metre straight-line sprint on a fully closed road, providing a safe and fast course for competitors.

Riders will race head-to-head over the short, explosive distance, testing their speed, power, and acceleration in a spectator-friendly environment along the Swan River foreshore.

The flat, smooth surface makes it ideal for high-speed competition, while the closed-road setting ensures optimal racing conditions

Insurance Advisory and Assumption of Risk

Participation in cycling events carries an inherent risk of injury. All athletes are strongly advised to hold valid and adequate cycle racing–specific insurance appropriate to the nature and level of competition.

Athletes should carefully review the terms of any existing medical or travel insurance policy, as many travel insurance policies specifically exclude cycle racing events unless an additional cover option has been purchased.

In the absence of adequate insurance coverage, the athlete accepts sole responsibility for all costs and expenses arising from any cycling related injury or illness, including but not limited to medical treatment, hospitalisation, ambulance transport, rehabilitation, and any incidental or associated expenses, whether incurred before, during, or after competition.

format

Competition Format

Riders will compete within their respective age categories.

The Road Sprint accommodates up to six riders per heat on a fully closed course. Each rider will contest three races along a straight course approximately 500 metres in length. Points are awarded based on finishing position for the first five riders across the line (7, 5, 3, 2, 1), with overall medals determined by aggregate scores. Any ties for medal positions after the third heat will be decided by a head-to-head sprint.

Where multiple heats are required within an age category, the lowest-placed riders following the first round will be eliminated to reduce the field to six riders for the remaining heats. Eliminations will be based on finishing positions in the opening heat, with the lowest finishers across all heats removed from progression.

When an uneven number of riders must be eliminated across heats, both finishing positions and recorded times may be used to determine eliminations. For example, if different heats require different numbers of riders to be eliminated (e.g., three from one heat and two from another), times can be used alongside placings to identify which riders progress to heat two.

All riders will be issued with a timing chip; however, official results and placings will be determined by photo finish to ensure accuracy.

awards

Medals are awarded to athletes placing first through third.

Awards ceremonies will be conducted at scheduled intervals throughout the competition.

equipment

All bicycles and equipment must comply with current Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Regulations. Riders may use a standard road bike in safe working order fitted with functioning brakes and without any unauthorised technical modifications; helmets must be approved and worn at all times while riding. The organisers and appointed commissaires may conduct pre-race and/or post-race checks, and any athlete whose equipment is deemed non-compliant or unsafe may be required to rectify the issue before starting or may be withdrawn from the event.
