Three large bore matches are offered, utilising a mixture of electronic and steel targets:

  • WPFG match – 300 meter, prone, 60 shot match using electronic targets.
  • Host Country match – 300, 500 & 600 meter, prone, 45 shot match using electronic targets.
  • Precision Rifle match – Eight courses or fire of varying distances, using a variety of supported and unsupported shooting positions under strict time limits. This match utilises a mixture of electronic and steel targets. Further information regarding the course of fire will be available closer to games time.

Competitors are responsible for supplying their own firearms and ammunition that comply with Western Australian Regulations – Please see the athlete entry book for more information.

TEAM EVENTS

Both the WPFG-match and the Host Country-match have separate team competitions. Competitors must enter and shoot the individual event to be eligible to compete in the team event. Team scores will be an aggregate of individual event scores, combined as a team.

A-Division: High Master, Master

B-Division: Expert, Sharpshooter and Marksman

 

PRECISION RIFLE

 

 

 

A Division: 2-person teams from the same agency.

B Division: 2-person combined agencies or pool players.

Competitors must enter and shoot the individual event to be eligible to compete in the team event.

Competitors who have not sourced a team and are entered in the individual event may enter and pay for a team event and indicate that they wish to be placed in the “Pool” for the team event

WPFG classifications will be used. A competitor without an established WPFG classification may use their official national classification score card or Score Record Book to receive an “Assigned Classification”. Any competitor without an established WPFG classification who cannot present such evidence will shoot their individual event. The score they obtain will be used to determine their proper classification. This classification will also be used for the team event.

Should it be discovered that a competitor has entered in a classification lower than their current rating, the competitor will be subject to possible disqualification. The WPFG reserves the right to reclassify any shooter based upon “known ability’ or other evidence to the skill of the individual.

COMPETITION FORMAT

Electronic Scoring targets will be utilised for the WPFG and Host Country matches.

WPFG match

ISSF 300 meter, prone, 60 shot match. 15-minute combined preparation and sighting time with unlimited sighters, followed by 50 minutes to record 60 scoring shots.

Separate events will be offered for:

  • Any Rifle,
  • Standard Rifle,
  • Sporter Rifle,
  • F-Class Open (F/O)
  • F-Class (T/TR)

 

Host Country match
Three strings of 15 shots, prone, on the 300-, 500-and 600-meter distances. Two convertible sighting shots at every distance of the match will be allowed, in accordance with the ICFRA standard. Competitors may be squadded with either two or three to a target and may be required to score each other.

Separate events will be offered for:

  • Standard Rifle,
  • Sporter Rifle,
  • Target Rifle/Palma Rifle,
  • F-Class Open,
  • F-Class Tactical/Restricted.

 

Precision Rifle

Precision rifle shooting is a dynamic long-range rifle discipline where competitors engage electronic or steel targets placed at varying distances, using a variety of supported and unsupported shooting positions. Stages require shooters to move safely between positions, use obstacles or props for stability, and fire

accurately under strict time limits, testing their marksmanship, problem solving, and ability to quickly build stable shooting platforms.

Eight courses of fire will be offered. In accordance with the National Rifle Association Australia Standard Shooting Rules.

Separate events will be offered for:

  • Historic Rifle (Service),
  • NATO Class,
  • Open Class.

 

There will be NO separate classifications as in High Power Rifle.

Please note that “Service Rifle” per the NRA and CMP definition are prohibited firearms within Australia. Consequently Perth 2027 will not be offering “Service Rifle” as an event. “Historic Rifle (Service)” has a different definition to “Service Rifle”.

Team scores for the WPFG and Host Country Match will be an aggregate of Individual event scores, combined as a team.

Competitors must enter and shoot the individual event to be eligible to compete in the team event.

The Precision Rifle team event will be a separate course of fire. Further information regarding the course of fire will be supplied closer to games time.

Medals are awarded for individuals and teams placing first through third within the classifications.

Awards ceremonies will take place at the conclusion of each match. Exact times TBC.

equipment

Competitors MUST use only equipment (firearms, accessories, ammunition, devices) and apparel that comply with ISSF rules. The competitor is responsible for submitting all equipment and apparel for official inspection and approval to a WPFG Equipment Inspector prior to competition.

Competitors are responsible for supplying firearms and ammunition.

 

Rifles

Any rifle: a bolt action rifle with iron sights. A competition or ‘service’-sling may be used.

Standard rifle: a rifle in accordance with ISSF rules, no hook, maximum weight of 5,5 kg, no set trigger, minimum trigger pull: 1500 grams. Maximum barrel length 762 mm.

F-Class TR: An F/TR Class rifle is limited to .223 Remington or .308 Winchester calibre chambers or their commercial metrification equivalents. Chamber dimensions must conform to SAAMI or CIP dimensions. Bore, Groove and Throat dimensions may be selected to suit bullets used. The overall weight must not exceed 8.25kg including all attachments (as defined above) such as, but not limited to, its sights, rain protection material and bipod, if any.

For the Perth 2027 WPFG competition only bolt action rifles may be used.

F-Class Open: An ‘F’ Class Open (F/O) rifle may be of any calibre up to and including 8mm and the overall weight must not exceed 10kg including all attachments (such as, but not limited to, its sights and bipod, if any). An ‘attachment’ is defined as including any external object (other than the competitor’s, sling (if any) and their apparel) which recoils (or partially recoils) with the rifle, or which is clamped, magnetically or viscously held, or in any other way joined to the rifle for each shot, or which even slightly rises with the rifle when vertically lifting the latter from its rest(s). This includes rain protection material as described at ICFRA rule F3.2.2.

Target Rifle/Palma Rifle: see ICFRA rule T2: ICFRA No weight limit, thumbhole is permitted, no butt hook, set trigger with a minimum trigger pull of 500 grams.

WPFG Match, if a competitor wants to use a Target Rifle/Palma rifle they will compete in any rifle category. The rules for Target Rifle/Palma rifle will still be in effect in regard to calibre and bullet weights.

Precision Rifle: NRA High Power Rifle Classification (Rule 3.2) Any Rifle will apply to this competition. “A rifle with no restrictions on sights or accessories including Schuetzen type butt plates and palm rests except that it must be safe to competitors and range personnel.” This must be a bolt action rifle, that is lawfully able to be imported into Australia and temporarily licensed within Western Australia.

Rifles must be bolt operated with Telescopic Sights and have a magazine capacity of not less than 5 rounds.

Competitors may use fixed or variable power optics for this competition. There are NO restrictions on the power settings for optics used in this competition.

Rifles will not exceed a calibre of 8mm or a velocity of 3,200 fps. A match DQ will result any rounds over the speed limit of 3,200 fps (+/- 32 fps for environmental factors and equipment discrepancies).

Sporter Rifle: A Sporter Class Rifle, as recognised by the National Rifle Association of Australia (NRAA), is a standard factory‑produced sporting, hunting, or varmint rifle of a type commonly available for general civilian use, and not purpose‑built or modified as a competition target or match rifle. The rifle must retain its conventional sporting configuration, have a maximum barrel length of 26 inches and a maximum overall weight of 6.5 kilograms, inclusive of sights and accessories. The rifle may be supported only by the shooter, a non‑mechanical bipod or similar front support attached to the rifle, and a simple rear sandbag; no mechanical rests, return‑to‑battery devices, or specialised target supports are permitted. Optical or iron sights of any magnification may be fitted. Accessories are limited to those typical of practical field use, such as detachable magazines, while features designed to materially reduce recoil or provide competitive advantage, including muzzle brakes and specialised match components, are not permitted. There are no minimum or maximum restrictions on calibre, as long as it’s not prohibited in Australia.

 

Ammunition

Ammunition will be available for purchase by competitors prior to competition, further information will be provided after registration.

Any rifle: minimum calibre is .223 Remington. No limits on loads or projectile weight

Standard rifle: minimum calibre is .223 Remington maximum calibre up to and including 8 mm. No limits on loads or projectile weight.

Target Rifle/Palma Rifle: .223 REM with a maximum bullet weight not exceeding 91 Grains. And .308 WIN with a maximum bullet weight not exceeding 155 Grains.

F-Class TR: the rifle may only be chambered in .223 REM or .308 WIN. Ammunition may be commercially made or hand loaded as defined in Rule F2.20. There is no restriction on bullet weight.

F-Class Open: an ‘F’ Class Open (F/O) rifle may be of any calibre up to and including 8mm.

Precision: No minimum calibre restrictions. Any and all types of factory ammunition is allowed. Ammunition will be restricted to no larger than 8mm.

 

Ear & Eye Protection

Competitors MUST supply their own ear and eye protection. It is mandatory for ear and eye protection to be worn during shooting. Eye protection, in the form of shatterproof shooting glasses or similar is to be worn. Earmuffs, ear plugs or protectors, passive or electronic must be worn. Apple Air-pods and similar earbuds are not adequate ear protection unless custom moulded to provide hearing protection. Earbuds specifically designed to offer hearing protection are acceptable.

 

Clothing

Shoes must be worn on the range. Open toe or open heeled shoes, sandals or any other similar footwear are not allowed.

 

Camouflage clothing of any nature is prohibited from being worn on any range.

Attendance at scheduled practice and all range safety briefings are mandatory for all competitors.

Competitors are responsible for payment of all practice fees to the venue directly. The practice fees and process will be advised closer to the event.
