sport information

Competition will be conducted in Kumite (Individual and Team) and Kata (Individual and Team) divisions.

All competitors must submit a Report of Medical Examination, signed by a licensed physician, based on a physical exam completed within six (6) weeks of the opening day of competition.

The athlete is required to retain the original completed form and must present it at athlete registration and at the official weigh in. Failure to comply with these requirements may result in inability to compete.

All competitors must attend a mandatory meeting on the evening before the competition for weigh-ins and rules briefing.

Each athlete SHALL attend this weigh-in. It is the responsibility of the athlete to make sure that they are in attendance for this weigh-in to provide fair competition for all athletes in this event. If you do not attend the scheduled weigh-in, you will be DISQUALIFIED FROM THE EVENT.

All competitors must produce their Report of Medical Examination at this meeting.

format

COMPETITION FORMAT

Athletes compete in divisions based on gender, age, experience level, and weight. Progressing through a structured elimination format, bouts are conducted as outlined below with competitors progressing through brackets until division winners are determined.

 

Bracketing

Divisions with up to five competitors

Round Robin; finals from results.

 

Divisions with six or more competitors

Group play with draw; Double Elimination finals.

 

Qualifications

All competitors shall possess an identification card, certificate or diploma authorised by a credentialed school or instructor.

All competitors, whether amateur or professional, will be allowed to compete.

 

Equipment

Kata

The following equipment is required for Individual and Team divisions:

  • White, WKF-approved, karate-Gi without stripes, piping, or personal embroidery (other than those specifically allowed by the WKF rules) Karate-Gi with red/blue embroidery on the shoulders are permitted but not required for this event.
  • WKF-approved red and blue belts.

 

Kumite

The following equipment is required for Individual and Team divisions:

  • White, WKF-approved, karate-Gi without stripes, piping, or personal embroidery, other than those specifically allowed by the WKF rules. Karate-Gi with red/blue embroidery on the shoulders are permitted but not required for this event.
  • WKF-approved red and blue belts.
  • WKF-approved red and blue gloves/mitts.
  • Mouth Guard/Gum Shield.
  • WKF-approved body protector (male or female design as applicable).
  • WKF-approved red and blue shin and foot protectors.
  • WKF-approved groin guards for male competitors

Medals are awarded to athletes placing first through third in each division (with dual bronze medals for third).

Awards ceremonies will take place daily following the conclusion of competition, at the venue.
