sport information
Athletes will complete an ocean 3.2km (2 miles) Open Water course.
If the water temperature is below 18 degrees Celsius (64.4 degrees Fahrenheit), wetsuits are compulsory.
Wetsuits are not permitted in water with a temperature of 18 degrees Celsius (64.4 degrees Fahrenheit) or above, except for when conditions are hazardous for competitors.
Athletes will receive a confirmation letter that will determine whether wetsuits will be allowed or not based on the estimated water temperature.
No floatation devices of any kind, fins, or any devices on the hands are allowed. Swim caps will be provided.
Water Safety
Competitors will be advised that a raised hand indicates trouble or withdrawal from the competition and when given aid, or picked up by a safety boat, results in disqualification.

format
COMPETITION FORMAT
No aid may be given to competitors until they have crossed the finish line.
A time limit of 2 hours will be given to all competitors. After which, all remaining competitors will be asked to leave the water or be picked up by safety boats.
The sport may be postponed, rescheduled or cancelled if unavoidable on account of stormy conditions or high waves.

Medals are awarded to athletes placing first through third in each division.
Awards ceremony will take place when all competitors are out of the water and results verified. The ceremony will take place at the venue.
getting there
This venue is NOT serviced by a WPFG Shuttle.
All sports within the Stirling Precinct are accessible via public transport using your free WPFG SmartRider.
The Surf CAT, a free bus service, runs every 10 minutes throughout the day between the Stirling train station and Scarborough Beach Bus Station.
